Advocating for Environmental Protection: Small Actions, Big Impact
On May 18, 2024, volunteers from New York Youth Roundtable enthusiastically participated in the Coastal Cleanup of Manhasset Bay event organized by the Manhasset Bay Protection Committee. We were honored to be part of such an impactful initiative.
Our group collected 7.6 pounds of trash, including 105 food wrappers, 35 bottle caps, 13 discarded fishing lines, 15 plastic bottles, 25 cigarette butts, 63 plastic bags, and 5 food containers. This effort not only improved the condition of the coastline but also highlighted the significant impact of daily actions on the natural environment.
Through this experience, both adults and children realized the importance of protecting our environment. Watching children eagerly pick up litter with their small hands filled us with immense pride. Such hands-on experiences make us appreciate our natural surroundings even more. According to environmental protection organizations, around 8 million tons of plastic enter the oceans annually, posing a severe threat to marine life and ecosystems.
We extend our heartfelt thanks to the Manhasset Bay Protection Committee for organizing this meaningful event and to all the volunteers who participated. Your enthusiasm and dedication have not only brought immediate improvements to our community but have also infused new energy into the broader environmental movement.
Protecting the environment is not just about today; it's about securing a sustainable future. Every small action, like properly disposing of waste, can bring about significant change for our planet. We urge everyone to take personal responsibility, reduce waste, and work together to preserve our beautiful home.
